# STP Formula

STP is a basic concept in chemistry. In STP system, both temperature and pressure are in standard form. Temperature and pressure of this system is considered as 273K and 1atm respectively. One can find out the volume of a gas in STP by using the standard formula. In this standard formula, temperature is in kelvin and pressure is in torr. STP formula is given as,

## STP Problems

Solved problems of gas in STP are given below:

### Solved Examples

Question 1: Calculate the volume of a gas at STP whose volume is 0.5L and the temperature and pressure is 300K and 700torr respectively?

Solution:

Given parameters are,
Volume of the gas = 0.5L, T = 300K, P = 700Torr
Formula for volume of a gas in STP is,

STP = Volume of gas$\times$ $\frac{273}{T}$$\times \frac{P}{760} STP = 0.5\times \frac{273}{300}$$\times$ $\frac{700}{760}$

STP = 0.4190L

Question 2: Volume of a gas at 350K and 1100Torr is 30L. Calculate the volume of this gas at STP?

Solution:

Given parameters are,
Volume of the gas = 30L, T = 350K, P = 1100Torr
Formula for volume of a gas in STP is,

STP = Volume of gas$\times$ $\frac{273}{T}$$\times \frac{P}{760} STP = 30\times \frac{273}{350}$$\times$ $\frac{1100}{760}$

STP = 33.868L
