Question 1: What is the value of 2 | 5x - 1 | if x = - 2?
Solution:
 
2 | 5x - 1 | = 2 | 5 (-2) - 1 |
2 | 5x - 1 | = 2 | -10 - 1 |
2 | 5x - 1 | = 2 | -11 |
2 | 5x - 1 | = 2 | 11 |
2 | 5x - 1 | = 22


 

Question 2: Solve 4 | x - 2 | = 16
Solution:
 
4 | x - 2 | = 16

| x - 2 | = $\frac{16}{4}$ 

| x - 2 | = 4

x - 2 = 4 or x - 2 = - 4

x = 4 + 2 or x = - 4 + 2

x = 6 or - 2
