# Decimal to Fraction Formula

We are aware that decimals are numbers with a decimal point and the fraction is the part of the whole number. The decimal to fraction and fraction to decimal conversion is always done without any fixed formula however there are steps!

Steps to convert decimal to fraction :
• To convert decimal to fraction divide the given decimal by 1. Just check after how many numbers decimal point arises from left
• Multiply and divide the decimal by as many multiples of 10's as many digits are there after the decimal point.You get the fraction form
• Thereafter reduce the fraction to its simplest form.

Question 1: Reduce 0.5 into fraction
Solution:

Given decimal is 0.5

There is only one digit after decimal point. Hence multiply and divide it by 10

0.5 $\times$ $\frac{10}{10}$= $\frac{5}{10}$

Reduce it to simplest form to get

$\frac{5}{10}$ = $\frac{1}{2}$.

Hence fraction form of 0.5 is $\frac{1}{2}$.

Question 2: Reduce 0.375 into fraction
Solution:

Given decimal is 0.375

There are 3 digits after decimal point. Hence multiply and divide it by 1000

0.375 $\times$ $\frac{1000}{1000}$ = $\frac{375}{1000}$

Reduce it to simplest form to get

$\frac{375}{1000}$ = $\frac{15}{40}$

=  $\frac{3}{8}$.

Hence the fraction form of 0.375 is $\frac{3}{8}$.
